A Landmark Event in the History of Corby Freemasonry.

The story of Freemasonry in Corby began in 1948, when the first lodge was consecrated in nearby Kettering. It would take another 20 years before a permanent base was established in Corby.

Since then, Corby has seen impressive growth with the formation of five additional Craft Lodges, two Royal Arch Chapters, and numerous side degrees.

A Long-Awaited Milestone

Over the past 76 years, Corby masons have achieved many Provincial and Grand Officer promotions. But one milestone had never been reached: a Corby Lodge with a Provincial Grand Master (PGM) sitting in the East.

That changed on Tuesday 17 September 2024, when RW Bro Mark Constant was installed as Worshipful Master of Ferraria Lodge No. 8489.

From Senior Officer to Worshipful Master

RW Bro Constant joined Ferraria Lodge in 2018, shortly after becoming the Senior Group Officer for the area. His journey has been closely tied to Corby masonry ever since.

The installation was described as:

“It was a little like David Beckham turning up to play in the local five-a-side team.”

Despite the prestige of the occasion, the evening remained warm, relaxed, and friendly.

A Night of Fellowship

The lodge welcomed Past Assistant Provincial Grand Master WBro David Burton, accompanied by the Deputy Grand Director of Ceremonies WBro Ian Wilson. WBro Burton delivered a heartfelt Address to the Master, echoing one previously given to him by RW Bro Constant.

The evening’s success was also due to WBro Steve Seward, who stepped in as Installing Master at short notice when both the WM and IPM were unavailable.

Gratitude and Reflection

In the toast to the new WM, RW Bro Constant was thanked for taking on the role despite an already demanding year ahead.

In his response, he expressed gratitude for the lodge’s confidence and support, while also acknowledging WBro Burton’s contribution in making the evening a truly memorable one.
