Celebrating an Irish Night at Thistle & Rose
Although it took place a couple of weeks after St Patrick’s Day itself, the brethren of Thistle & Rose Lodge were not going to let March pass without marking the occasion in style. An Irish-themed evening was arranged, and it turned out to be a memorable night of ritual, fellowship, music, and laughter.
A Special Ceremony
The evening began in the Temple with a fine piece of ritual work, as Bro. Andrew Rhodes was raised to the sublime degree of a Master Mason. The quality of the ceremony set the tone for what would be an excellent night all round.
Food, Drink, and Fellowship
Following the work in the Temple, the brethren retired to the Hall to enjoy food and refreshments. For many, this included a pint of the classic “black stuff” — with the non-alcoholic version at hand for those who were driving. Others enjoyed their usual tipples, but the theme of the evening was clear: good company and good cheer.
Music and Entertainment
The celebrations were lifted further by WBro Ian Stark and WBro Scott Morton, who entertained everyone with a lively selection of Irish folk songs. Their renditions of The Leaving of Liverpool, The Fields of Athenry, Whiskey in the Jar, and The Irish Rover were warmly received, with the whole room joining in enthusiastically between the evening toasts.
Later in the night, they returned to the floor with more favourites, including The Bricklayer’s Song (The Sick Note), Tell Me Ma, and a rousing finale of The Wild Rover, which brought the evening to a spirited close.
Humour and Hospitality
The toast to the Visitors was given by WBro Ronnie Stone, who laced his welcome with a touch of Irish humour that had the brethren laughing and applauding. It was a fitting reminder that fellowship and good spirits lie at the heart of the Masonic experience.
A Night to Remember
The Irish Night at Thistle & Rose Lodge was a resounding success, blending ritual excellence with light-hearted entertainment. It showed once again how the Lodge combines tradition with fellowship to create occasions that are both meaningful and memorable.

A great night was had by all present.
